Free Credit Report

Why wait until you're in the middle of a loan application for a home or vehicle of your dreams to discover your credit rating?   This is valuable information that you can and should know ahead of time.

Go to Annualcreditreport.com

Be careful to enter this web address exactly, as there are several similar websites offering credit reports that have terms and conditions different than those described here.

At Annualcreditreport.com, you may order one credit report per year, without charge, from each of the three main credit-reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion).  Every four months from a different agency each time is ideal.  Example: order a credit report from Experian in January, a report from Equifax in May, and then order a report from TransUnion in September.

Or, you may call 877-322-8228 to get a copy of your credit report.

Another benefit of knowing your credit history would be if your credit report shows any errors.  This would include unauthorized use of your name or account information, i.e., Identity Theft.  The law entitles you to correct mistakes.   Write to the credit bureau (Experian, etc.) showing the error, explaining why you think your information or activity is inaccurate.  Credit bureaus have 30 days to investigate your claim, notify you of the results, and delete inaccurate or unverifiable information.  If you disagree with the investigation results, you can write a dispute statement to appear in your credit file.
